About Therapy

Step 1: Telephone Consultation

If you are thinking about starting therapy, it can be overwhelming to know where to begin. In order to help with this, I offer a free 15 minute telephone consultation.

This will give me a chance to get a sense of what you are looking for, and to check I can offer what you need. It will also give you a chance to see if you think that I am the right fit for you, and to ask any questions you have about therapy or about my practice.

Step 2: Assessment

If you would like to go ahead, you can then book in for an assessment. Assessments typically last 60 minutes, which will give us time to discuss your difficulties and goals and to create an initial treatment plan. This will often be a therapy recommendation. Occasionally, I may feel you would be better suited to a different approach or service, in which case I will make detailed recommendations and referrals. And sometimes we may need a little longer to clarify the treatment plan, in which case I will recommend an extended assessment.

Step 3: Treatment

Treatment usually involves weekly sessions, typically lasting an hour (although in some cases 30 or 90 minute sessions may be appropriate). I will do my best to give you a sense of treatment length at assessment, although regular review sessions will allow us to determine whether this might need to be adjusted.

I may recommend that you also see a dietitan or psychiatrist. If so, I am happy to make recommendations and referrals.
